Testimonials

It really is the best event I attend all year. The connections I have made through this event are lifelong and meaningful not to mention really fun people!

Jenith Milshine, Director of Technology, Newport-Mesa Unified School District, CA

I am always interested to see what the vendors are bringing. I also very much enjoyed the Thursday evening view into the future. The opportunity to network with other school professionals also gets a high ranking. Can I say it was ‘all’ the best part?

Randy Moczygemba, Superintendent, New Braunfels ISD, TX

Honestly, this is just a great event. I go home energized and ready to refocus myself on my job. The wealth of ideas and encouragement is just outstanding. Thank you.

Scott Harris, Technology Director, Neosho School District, MO

The sponsor part was really valuable. Unlike most events where you have to visit booths and have shallow interactions, here you got to really interact and have conversations.

Nathan Byler, Director of Technology

The level of interaction between T&L staff, Superintendents, and Tech Directors is great. The size of the conference is just right — not too big, not too small.

Sean Holmes, Chief Technology Officer

A great conference with a highly professional group of organizers, attendees, and sponsors.

Art Fessler, Superintendent

General Session: Cultivating Empathy in Students at the Intersection of Testimony and Technology

Sierra Ballroom (lobby level)

This presentation will provide participants with a demonstration of USCShoah Foundation's Interactive Biography from its “Dimensions in Testimony” program. Attendees will “meet” and interact with a survivor of a Holocaust concentration camp via the Foundation’s Interactive biographies, which are interactive educational tools that permit visitors to have "virtual conversations" with survivors of genocide about their life experiences.

"Dimensions in Testimony", incorporates interview content recorded with advanced filming techniques, next-generation natural language processing, and specialized display technologies to deliver an interacting learning experience that invites students to drive their own exploration of the past and consider its impact on the present. As a result, students develop knowledge, communication and critical thinking skills, and empathy -- all of which are important for active citizenship.

This presentation will inform a discussion about how technology and story can bring students new ways of learning history, building empathy, and developing critical thinking and literacy skills.
