At the October 2018 Tech & Learning Leadership Summit, attendees will have the opportunity to listen to and share the many innovative ways district leaders have worked to close the digital divide through innovative solutions.


Tech & Learning Leadership Summits are attended by a select group of K-12 technology and instructional professionals from districts across the country who understand and benefit from timely and relevant executive-level news about the successes and challenges of edtech.

Presenting timely and relevant content from the most authoritative speakers and advisors, along with unmatched networking opportunities, the two-day events are comprised of lively panel discussions and roundtables, one-on-one meetings, and networking-focused social activities.

Speakers and discussions will focus on K-12 leadership for tomorrow’s schools and the impact of emerging technologies such as mobile and cloud computing, immersive and virtual environments, and more. Each Summit will use a combination of presentations and working sessions to focus on challenges and success stories related to technology-supported educational transformation.

Attendees will visit DSST Public Schools, widely considered to be one of the leading open enrollment STEM. DSST schools are home to the highest performing and highest growth secondary schools in Denver Public Schools, and to date, 100% of their graduates have earned acceptance into 4-year colleges and universities. We will visit the following campuses to see their work in action and meet students, teachers, and school district leaders from DSST: Green Valley Ranch High School and Conservatory Green High School.

General Session: Bridging the Equity Gap

The morning session begins with a panel of professionals who will discuss issues related to equity. The panelists will discuss specific ways they are working to provide equal technology access to students and school leaders of all genders, race, and economic backgrounds.

Panelists:

Melissa Schwass is the Denver High School Program Director of ChickTech, a nonprofit dedicated to engaging women of all ages in the technology industry while working to create a better technology culture for all.

Wisdom Amouzou is the co-founder of the HadaNõu Collective, which co-creates learning environments grounded in Authentic Education through centers and schools. Wisdom currently serves as Executive Director of Empower Community High School. ECHS is an innovative high school launching Fall 2019 featuring a 4 year Ethnic Studies program, experiential project-based learning, and a student-led school model. Wisdom is also a Moonshot Edventures Fellow, a nonprofit that is working to solve three connected problems: an Industrial-Era School System in the 21st Century, an Underdeveloped Talent Pipeline; and Insufficient Leadership That Mirrors Communities Served.

Sean Wybrant: Sean crafts tomorrow’s heroes in his classroom by teaching students to critically think and solve problems through computer science and video game development at William J. Palmer High School. Sean is also a member of the Moonshot Edventures team.

Attendees will have the chance to break into small groups to discuss challenges and solutions tailored to their own districts.


10:30 am - 12:20 pm

Working Groups and Sponsor meetings

Several “working groups” will meet during this time period to drill down on topics chosen by attendees. Topics will include: Physical Security/Emergency Response Planning; Digital Equity; Data/Cybersecurity; Interoperability, Learning Spaces; Sustaining 1:1; and more.

Working Groups and Sponsor meetings

Additional working groups will meet during this time period – along with one-on-one/small group meetings with sponsors and informal discussions with colleagues. During the course of the day, each attendee will participate in two working groups on topics of their choosing, as well as a number of smaller meetings and discussions


3:40 – 4:30 pm

Lessons Learned

The final session will be an opportunity to identify specific takeaways attendees will put into place in their districts. These will be included in a follow-up report to be published in Tech & Learning magazine.
